Types of Orthodontic Appliances
There are many different types of orthodontic appliances to choose from. The best appliance for each person depends on their needs and goals. We recommend a consult so that we can discuss the best option for you or your child.
Metal Braces - the traditional braces most people think, can have fun with colors
Clear Braces - less obvious since they blend in with the surface of the tooth
Self-ligating braces - can work faster in certain cases
Clear aligners - removable appliances such as Invisalign
Lingual braces - placed on the inside of the teeth so it affects speech (Dr. Maull can talk to you about her personal experience with lingual braces!)
Additional Appliances for Children include:
Expanders - to increase jaw width
Night-time facemask - for underbites
Removable appliances - to increase space for teeth, improve the developing bite, enhance jaw growth
Habit appliances - for thumb or finger sucking
Space maintainers - to preserve space after early loss of baby molars
